Usage Precautions
Size Matching: The cork's diameter should be 6mm larger than the bottle's inner neck diameter for still wines, or 7mm larger for sparkling wines. For instance, a 24mm diameter cork is compressed to approximately 18mm for insertion, after which it gradually expands to form a seal. Providing actual bottle samples for compatibility testing is recommended, as neck taper and inner diameter can vary between bottle types.
Natural Cork Preparation: Store natural corks in an environment at approximately 21°C (70°F) for at least 24 hours before use. Do not soak or heat natural corks beforehand; they come pre-coated with paraffin and silicone to facilitate insertion, and soaking would remove this coating. Bottling temperatures should not exceed 60°C.
Post-Insertion Handling: After insertion, keep the bottle upright for at least 2 hours (24 hours recommended) to allow the cork to fully expand against the bottle neck (it takes about 3 hours to reach 95% expansion and 24 hours for full recovery). Do not lay the bottle on its side during this period, as wine could seep into the gap between the cork and the glass, compromising the seal or causing leakage.
